NEPAL

When there is no doctor to turn to, simple diseases often lead to unnecessary suffering, death, and economic burden.

Most organizations seek to solve this problem with more technology, more modern medicine, and more “experts”.

We take a different approach.

We work with the local people to strengthen and promote existing resources like nutritious food, indigenous healing traditions, and medicinal plants.

In hard-to-reach places like rural Nepal, local people are ready to reawaken their indigenous healing knowledge and create a culture of disease prevention in their community to save lives.

The Prevention is Better than Cure program is their platform to heal their communities.

We currently serve 18,000 people in Indrasarowar Rural Municipality, a region southeast of Kathmandu in the foothills of the Himalayas.

Families supported by our Prevention is Better than Cure program receive:

Our Preventive Health Educators are trained local indigenous healers and emerging leaders. They provide our families with transformative health education and support through home visits and engaging community gatherings.

A Home Herbal Garden is an at-home pharmacy for our families. We provide key native plants to families and coach them to grow and use them in everyday life to build health and prevent disease.

Children of sponsored families participate in regular health workshops, field trips with elders to facilitate the transmission of knowledge, and hands-on experience growing and making medicine that preserves their land and culture.
